Product Description

Description

KFLOP is a novel motion controller that takes over the real-time requirements of your system from the host computer by buffering data and running multiple simultaneous threads deterministically. Combined with software architecture that gives you easy access to low-level functions and the ability to create your own front-end GUIs to access our libraries directly or through the .NET interface, the KFLOP motion controller is a powerful solution to your motion control needs.

In developing our KFLOP control board we wanted to offer accuracy, flexibility and capability for a reasonable price. What we achieved is a DSP-based microcontroller with 1.2 GFLOPs of processing power, a 100k Gate FPGA, 16 Mb SDRAM, 8 axes of control, lots of I/O and the ability to program in C and do path planning with G-Code for only $299. In addition, we throw in free software that has prepackaged filters and routines allowing full tuning capability for high-accuracy applications. You can begin controlling your mechanisms in minutes right out of the box.

Over its lifetime, KFLOP has accumulated thousands of satisfied customers around the world who are using the KFLOP for a number of applications. In particular, the CNC community has embraced the KFLOP to run a wide variety of mills, presses, lathes, and other machining equipment.

KFLOP is easily customizable to control a variety of motor types (DC Brush Motors, Brushless Motors, Stepper Motors) as well as other physical devices. KFLOP provides low-latency, guaranteed, real-time deterministic response. Because of this, KFLOP relieves a host computer from real-time requirements (i.e. Windows is not real-time, KFLOP is).

When combined with our free software, KFLOP offers a complete motion control solution to generate Step and Direction pulses for use with 3rd Party Motor Amplifiers. Or connect up to 2 Dynomotion SnapAmps that generate current to up to 25 Amps per axis. Other applications will benefit from connecting our Kanalog I/O expansion board. Both the SnapAmp and Kanalog boards enable the use of Differential Encoders, among other things. For intense stepper motor applications, our KStep may be the perfect add-on to your KFLOP.

Here are just a few highlights of the KFLOP:

  • Real-time motion control that relieves the host computer of that duty
  • High Performance 1.2 GFLOP DSP
  • 64-bit Double Precision Hardware Math
  • All 8 axes are sampled every 90 microseconds
  • USB 2.0 Full Speed Host interface (or run stand alone)
  • 16 MBytes RAM
  • Digital I/O

Example Applications:

  • CNC machining (build a CNC from the ground-up or retrofit with a KFLOP)
  • Mills
  • Lathes
  • Brakepresses
  • Grinders
  • Spinners
  • Routers
  • Saws
  • Robotics
  • Automation
  • Camera Control
  • Pick-and-place
  • Data Acquisition

KFLOP works with many different Input/Output devices:

  • Analog Motor Amplifiers
  • Step/Direction Drives
  • PWM (Pulse-Width Modulated) Drives
  • Relays and Switches
  • Single-ended Encoders and Analog Sensors
  • Amplifiers by ADVANCED Motion Control. Step/Direction works with ADVANCED Motion Control's DigiFlex® Performance™ series. KFLOP/Kanalog works well with ADVANCED Motion Control's drives that accept +/- 10V. analog and have differential encoder outputs for closed loop control. The hardware works exactly as promised. The software works exactly as promised. Support is excellent...Any time I've asked a question, either directly or via the newsgroup it has been answered, usually within 24 hours. Exceptional support and attention to detail--I never get half-answers. System could use a few more basic examples for beginners and links between examples and code, but Dynomotion has always filled in those blanks with fast email support. I wrote a CNC milling application in a few months with the KFlop and KMotionDotNet and it fully enables a coder to utilize the hardware\'s potential. In my case it enabled me to abandon buggy older CNC applications!

I own 2 kflops, one for my cnc router and another for my cnc mill. The product and support are simply outstanding. Tom really goes way out of his way to quickly and expertly respond to all your questions. Kflp is an amazing and extremely versatile product. New features and addons are constantly added to improve the features and versatility of the product. This is a professional grade product with top quality components. I am a very happy customer and highly recommend this product.

We use the Kflop cards for different projects, running 7 different programs at the same time on one card helped a lot in our projects. The support is ok, documentation about some programming aspects could be a little better in some cases. But it is a great product.

After my first retrofit of a CNC knee mill with steppers and glass scales(2008 time frame),i was searching for a way to close the loop. Came across the KFLOP board and was amazed how well the stepper closed loop works. The support from Tom is the best i have ever seen...when a wall appears he stomps it down flat and keeps going. I have said this about very few people. Currently using a KFLOP on my mill/drill stepper with glass scales at home. Here is a link to it, the page is a little out of date. http://www.homecncstuff.elementfx.com/MillDrill.html The price of board might seem high compared to other USB boards, but the power and options in a KFLOP is much more than the others, especially if you know C programming. I would recommend this board on any level from home hobby to industrial.
Thanks again.

Nothing but praise..(user for 3 years)
I was looking to build a cnc machine for a while, but couldn't decide which direction to go, so started buying components on ebay like servo drives and controler even bought the software (Mach III). Lucky enough I found a second hand EDM machine from 1995 (good for cnc milling rebuild), the control panel has gone up in smoke (so the price was very cheap), it has 3 Heinenhain glass scales and C3 ball screws. So I started to get very excited about the accuracy that this machine could deliver. After some research I realised that we needed a different controler, one that could create the second closed loop (feedback from the glass scales on the axis) as well as the analogue output needed for the servo drives, so the Kflop extended with the Kanalog was the solution for me. First I started using Mach III as the interface, but after a while I realised that using the KmotionCNC was very easy, no more pluggin for Mach III, it was all we needed and more, fast accurate and stable.
The quality of products, and the outstanding service, just incredible, would recommend Dynomotion to anyone.
Keep up the good work
Henk
